The National Weather Service in Goodland has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for... Greeley County in west central Kansas... Wichita County in west central Kansas...

* Until 1045 AM MDT /1145 AM CDT/.

* At 446 AM MDT /546 AM CDT/, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1.5 and 2.5 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1 inch are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.

HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Leoti, Tribune, Horace, Selkirk, Lydia and Marienthal.

What to do

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.

* WHEN...Until 1100 AM CDT /1000 AM MDT/ Tonight.

* IMPACTS...Flooding of streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 455 AM CDT /355 AM MDT/, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the warned area. Between 2 and 4 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the warned area. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... * WHERE...Western Sheridan County in northwestern Kansas... Thomas County in northwestern Kansas... Northwestern Gove County in west central Kansas... Logan County in west central Kansas... Southeastern Wallace County in west central Kansas...

* WHEN...Until 145 PM CDT /1245 PM MDT/.

* IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Rises in small streams and normally dry arroyos. Some low-water crossings may become impassable.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 747 AM CDT /647 AM MDT/, emergency management reported heavy rain in the advisory area due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. Between 1 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts up to 1.5 inches are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Colby, Oakley, Grinnell, Levant, Rexford, Selden, Winona, Monument, Gem, Menlo, Wallace, Russell Springs, Mingo, Halford, Angelus and Seguin.
